We speak with Lauren Sanders about her new novel The Book of Love and Hate. She is also the author of the novels Kamikaze Lust, which won a Lambda Literary Award, and With or Without You. Her writing has appeared in various publications, including Bookforum, the American Book Review, and Time Out New York.

We also talk with Stan Kusunoki – a third generation Japanese American writer – about his new poetry collection, Items in the News. He is also the author of the collection 180 Days: Reflections & Observations of a Teacher. He is a teacher, poet, arts advocate and musician who has received many awards, including a Minnesota State Arts Board Grant.

We speak with Michael Sears and Stanley Trollip, who together comprise the writing team of Michael Stanley, about their new novel Dying to Live, #6 in the Detective Kubu series. It has already received praise from Publishers Weekly and Kirkus as the best one yet. They won the Barry Award and were finalists for an Edgar for Death of the Mantis, and were finalists for an International Thriller Award for Deadly Harvest.

We also talk with Elizabeth Tannen and Michael Kleber-Diggs about the Minnesota Prison Writing Workshop, which offers creative writing workshops in prisons throughout the state. Elizabeth Tannen is a multi-genre writer, editor and teacher whose work has appeared in many publications, including SlateNPRThe Rumpus and The Morning NewsMichael Kleber-Diggs is an essayist and poet living in St. Paul who has been involved in the Loft’s mentor series in poetry and creative prose.
